The role of an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) professional is one of an advisor, monitor, resource person and auditor, providing a service to Line Management.

EHS Manager skills and abilities:

  • Provide line management with the services and technical advice needed for proper administration of the EHS program.
  • Develop technical guidance and interim processes to identify and remove physical hazards from construction sites.
  • Formulate and make EHS management aware of change recommendations to the Loss Control Manager.
  • Prepare and distribute EHS statistical reports as required by the company, the client and the contractor.
  • Maintain the project accident/incident reporting and data collection system, coordinate investigations and ensure that corrective action(s) are completed expediently.
  • Champion line management in worker development with respect to current EHS practices.
  • Conduct site tours and inspections to observe conditions and work practices.
  • Establish/maintain project EHS client/contractor relationships.
  • Champion compliance of applicable legislations, acts, codes, and regulations.
  • Recommend EHS systems and activities that will enhance and maintain motivation of workers.
  • Coordinate continuing education, EHS programs and courses for appropriate personnel. This includes professional development, training and education matrix.

EHS Specialist skills and abilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of the site EHS program.
  • Assist line-management in incident prevention, investigation, analyses, and preparation of reports and summaries.
  • Post and maintain EHS bulletins, posters, rules and regulations.
  • Ensure that all EHS reports are submitted as required in a timely manner.
  • Conduct and maintain EHS files, reports, site observations, personal daily logs, etc.
  • Conduct worker orientation.
  • Advise corrective action where an EHS deficiency has been identified.
  • Assist with EHS seminars or training.
  • Act as liaison between project line management and the EHS department management.
