Positive Behaviour Rewards

Lockerbie & Hole Industrial, Prairie Region, introduced a positive performance safety recognition program to its workforce effective September 2004. This incentive has been deemed a "leading edge" initiative, as the foundation encompasses the 10 "leading indicators" requiring "best practices", as identified by the Construction Safety Association of Alberta, 2004-2007.

The targeted leading indicator best practices are as follows: contractor selection (EHS) process is in place, prior to the start of the project; hazard identification/analysis process is in place, prior to the start of the project; pre-hiring screening of employees (D&A) is conducted; active management safety participation-tours/walkabouts/written communications; supervisor's safety activity is evaluated at regular intervals; field level hazard assessments (FLHA) are conducted prior to start of new work/at the beginning of shift; near miss/near hit reporting process is in place and working; focus (compliance) observation process is in place and working; behavioural-based observation process is in place and working; employee perception surveys are conducted to determine the state of EHS health.

As we strive for "safety" excellence, with EHS core values that are clearly understood and believed, we must also take the time to acknowledge those who significantly contribute to operational excellence through their positive behaviour and work ethics.

We must believe the positive performers of today will influence the future of our industry. It is with these thoughts in mind that we provide a positive, behavioural-based, safety recognition program. The program logistics focus upon a choice merchandise catalogue, valued scratch point cards, and motivated terms and conditions to achieve success! To ensure understanding, breakout packages will be continuously communicated to the eligible workers, through the EHS Managers, EHS Specialists, assigned to each applicable jurisdiction.
